FPV race in Kiev UADR Challenge 2017 Stage 2

The 2nd stage of UADR CHALLENGE 2017 "Kyiv Drone Racing Cup", held on May 21-22 at Kyiv VDNKh, perfectly coincided with the second ever Kyiv Maker Faire - a technology festival where inventors from all over Ukraine showed their creativity to the world. Racing quadrocopters perfectly fit into the theme of the festival, as each drone is a unique system, created and customized by each FPV-pilot practically from scratch.

Despite the disappointing weather forecasts, the 2nd stage of the championship went off without a hitch. A little rain and strong wind could not break the competitive spirit around. 39 pilots from all over Ukraine participated in qualification flights out of 44 participants.

The first day of qualification was quite exciting. The track, despite its simplicity, gave an opportunity to test pilots for speed and maneuverability as well as possible. Many breathed a sigh of relief when it turned out that there would be no metal cube at this stage. The results of the first qualifying day can be seen in the table below.

The second day slightly shocked the pilots, as the track underwent significant changes. In addition, several obstacles in the form of gates were added, which affected the overall atmosphere of the tournament, because in fact the track had to be studied anew.

As before, the competition was held under the Double Elimination system, which we wrote about in the previous article. Each stage of the races turned out to be so tense and unpredictable, for example, there were several false starts, and the final race had to be held twice, because of sudden problems with communication Nikolay Podakov dropped out of the track early. However, this did not prevent him from winning the UADR CHALLENGE 2017 "Chernihiv Drone Racing Cup".
