FPV race in Kiev UADR Challenge 2017 Stage 3 Re:Race

UADR Challenge 2017 Ukrainian Drone Racing Championship season is coming to an end. The successful 4th stage, held in Uzhgorod, was supposed to move to the 5th final stage of the season. But as you know, the 3rd stage of UADR Challenge in Malaya Viska was not held on July 1 due to squally wind, so the race was postponed to the end of September. The reboot of the 3rd stage called UADR CHALLENGE 2017 STAGE 3 Re:Race took place on September 16-17 in Kiev.

The main sponsor of the competition was Silpo retail chain, so the location for the championship was chosen in one of the supermarkets of the chain. Billboards advertising the event and indicating the teams of participants were found all over Kiev.

Initially, the trailer for the stage with Chad Novak showed flights inside the supermarket, so many pilots expected an unusual track among the food racks, but in fact the race was held in the parking lot of the shopping center.

For the first time the track was located on a hard asphalt surface, which implied a higher accident rate than usual. This did not frighten the pilots, as the competition again involved about 40 pilots from all corners of Ukraine.

In addition to the standard zone of pilots finally appeared real stands for spectators, thanks to which the public did not leave early and actively watched the competition.

On the day of qualification, despite a little unfavorable weather, there were a lot of people.

Pre-qualification briefing, where the rules for restart requirements and penalties for false starts were clearly announced.

Changeable weather and strong winds tested the organizers for strength, as from gusts of wind structures, flags, race gates fell down every now and then. And new elements on the course, such as two-level gates-walls, dubbed as "FlyMod lock" and "UADR lock", were reinforced with metal fence and concrete slabs during the competition.

The pilots themselves also actively helped in fixing the broken track.

The course of the competition was accompanied by a DJ in a car with the RedBull logo.

Again was used the system of radio clocking from ImmersionRC, which proved itself well at the previous stage in Uzhgorod, although this time it did not work perfectly, some pilots clocked in advance and showed the result before a full lap. Perhaps in the future it is worth installing the starting gate with radio clock further away from the area of the track.

The medical staff tirelessly monitored the race, fortunately they had no work to do.

STAGE 3 Re:Race was the first stage without practice flights. On the first day everyone got acquainted with the track directly during qualification and such a turn added a lot of unpredictability to the race. In addition, the complexity of some elements of the track, such as the maze of three gates ending with the "UADR lock", became a stumbling block for many pilots, some of the gates from the maze were repeatedly knocked down by quads in the heat of the race.

Photos from the first qualifying day on September 16.

Each pilot had time to conduct 4 qualification flights, which gave the opportunity to maximize the result in the standings.

Results of the first qualification day

On September 17, the weather was more favorable, so the main race day started without any hiccups. The radio-controlled car was the first to test the track for strength.

Some pilots did not participate in the stage, but just came to support their colleagues

The race was held according to Double Elimination system. 32 pilots who showed the best results during the qualification went to the top grid of the competition and already at 12.00 the first competition flights started.

Despite a lot of positive moments, the main disadvantage of the stage was constant problems with video signal. After several crashes due to signal loss and related re-launches, some pilots eventually gave up on using sound stays. In addition to poor video signal, the pilots were affected by the new start system, where after the countdown, the race start signal was given at different times, which led to several false starts.

The accident rate of the track was off the scale, very few people managed to fly all 4 laps without catching a gate or a flag. Quadras got stuck in nets, on trees and even several times punched UADR banners located on both "locks".

While waiting for the final flights.....

This time the final was without any re-flights, and still Modest Ach took revenge, becoming the undisputed leader of the 3rd stage of UADR Challenge 2017, with which we sincerely congratulate him.

The 4 finalists are as follows:

Table of the competition and table of points distribution for the stage.

At the end everyone shouts "Flymooood" (actually "Silpoooo").
