The first ESC from Matek with the brand new SerialShot protocol

The first ESC from Matek with the brand new SerialShot protocol

Matek has unveiled its first 4-in-1 ESC, which will run on a brand new proprietary SerialShot protocol. Matek promises that this protocol will completely change the way ESCs connect to the flight controller.

Traditionally, each ESC channel is controlled by a separate micro processor. With SerialShot, a single processor will be able to control all four ESC channels simultaneously.

.

As you can see in the video, the cable from the flight controller to the 4-in-1 ESC has only 4 wires - VBAT, GND and Serial UART (RX and TX). SerialShot will only require the last 3 wires, which is much less compared to other protocols that require a minimum of 5 wires to work.

Matek's new 4-in-1 ESC will be made with a single STM32 F4 processor specifically for SerialShot use. The use of a single processor should significantly reduce the cost of production of the 4-in-1 ESC and therefore reduce the final price for the consumer.

It is not yet known how the new protocol will work with individual regulators.
